Welcome to the blog for the Center for Diabetes and Mental Health. We are excited that we finally have our website up and running so that we can be a resource for you on the issues related to diabetes and mental health. Whether you are a person living with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, a family member of someone with diabetes, a healthcare provider or a part of the diabetes business community, we hope that this blog will help you to learn more about these important issues. In addition, we want help you, regardless of your roll in the diabetes community, to think about what you can do to help make living with diabetes easier.
We are an organization that focuses only on diabetes and mental health and we take this mission seriously. We live with diabetes, we treat with people with diabetes, and we work on issues related to diabetes and mental on a daily basis, so we know how important they are. Mental health issues are often hidden diabetes ‘complications’ that can appear at anytime in the diabetes journey. They affect the person with diabetes, but their family, friends and healthcare team. The good news is that these hidden ‘complications’ can be successfully treated, and working through them can make you stronger!
We really want this blog to not only be a resource for the diabetes community, but also a place for conversation and for everyone to share their thoughts, ideas, and experiences. We will be blogging on all issues related to diabetes and mental health and will have content for people with type 1 diabetes, people with type 2 diabetes, friends and family members. It will address current research related to diabetes and mental health and offer ideas and suggestions on how the diabetes community can work together to address these important issues. We will always try to address topics that are important to our readers, so if there is something you would like us to talk about, leave a comment or send us a note.
