Making Connections, Building Support

Connecting with others living diabetes is one of the best things people can do in their diabetes journey. I can’t tell you how many people who have come to see me who have never met another person with diabetes. When they do meet someone with diabetes, connect with someone on social media or read a blog, it can be like a big weight is lifted off of their shoulders. They see that they are not alone.

I was so impressed with some of the blogs that I read during diabetes blog week, especially those that talked about mental health issues and diabetes. These things are not easy to talk about in such a public forum, but the courage that folks showed in putting their challenges out there will impact the lives of people with diabetes. These stories can be instrumental in showing people with diabetes that, even though they are experiencing difficulties, they are not alone. This is an invaluable gift to our community.

Here are a couple of blogs from this week that are great examples of this impact:

As diabetes blog week comes to an end, never forget how much power there is in numbers. This community does such a fantastic job at supporting all of its members, and there are so many people with diabetes out there who don’t know that this support even exists. Let’s not stop making connections today. Let’s commit to working together to spread the word about the diabetes online community so that everyone with diabetes can connect and get the support that they need!
